The Separo is a fat separator that was patented in 2001 by my father in-law, Schallie van Schalkwyk. It is with great pride that I am continuing his legacy by taking over this business, 20 years after the first production of the Separo.


The Separo Fat Separator, has the unique capability to separate out more fat from meat juices than other fat separators, by splashing into the liquid and leaving a fatty residue.

The lid fits snugly into the high heat-resistant plastic measuring jug. The large strainer in the lid is easy to fill and catches unwanted gristle and food particles so gravies and stocks remain clear and smooth.

The measuring jug is also an oversized, 4 Cup/1L capacity, and features easy-to-read measurements. The jug has a large easy grip comfortable handle that makes for easy pouring. The large spout is also particularly useful for pouring large batches of gravy or stock.

The top and bottom see-through parts of The Separo Fat Separator is made of Polycarbonate, the white parts of ABS and the seal of TPE, these food-safe materials can take heat of up to 135°C.

The Separo is SABS approved and was tested by Ann White, Senior Test Officer at SABS, on 27 March 2001. The Separo was also the only unconsumable product tested and approved by the South African Heart Foundation at that time.

How To Use?

1. Pour the gravy mix into the top container and allow 60 seconds for fat/oil to float to the surface.

2. Push knob down to allow the gravy to pass through the valve.

3. Remove the top container with fat/oil and use the bottom container with the gravy.

4. The gravy can be poured back into your dish or served separately.

5. Enjoy a Healthy Meal
